BACKGROUND & HISTORY

Born to a human father and a witch-in-hiding mother created a complicated history for Kennedy. Her mother Noelle, who was mysteriously sick throughout her pregnancy, died just two weeks after giving birth, leaving Kennedy to be raised by her oblivious, angry, and artistic father, Eric. Noelle came from a long-line of witches, unknown to Eric. So when Kennedy turned eight years old and started to see weird things she couldn’t explain, her father thought she had a “gift” for art and a strong imagination. He trained her in every medium he knew, and knowing nothing else, Kennedy began to draw and create art out of what she saw. All of the premonitions she had came true, but were events so disconnected from Kennedy that she never made the connections. It wasn’t until she was a teenager that Kennedy realized there was something more to her drawings and that she didn’t just have a bizarre imagination. Two weeks after painting a scene of her town as it was torn apart by a massive, record-breaking tornado, the exact same storm hit. Scared and angry with herself, Kennedy demanded her father tell her about her mother’s family, but he told her to never contact them. He had no idea what her mother’s family was, but he never liked them and moved himself and Kennedy away from Siren Cove before the dirt ever fell on her mother’s grave. He made sure they moved every couple of years so her family would never find them. Kennedy ran away from home at 16 and travelled to Texas where she reunited with her aunt, her mom’s only surviving relative and practicer of black magic.

North Tyler was an angry, bitter woman who immediately took Kennedy under her wing. She soon learned that her parents had only married because Noelle placed a powerful love spell over a handsome man she met at an art museum, a fact that gave Kennedy chills. They were married just four months after meeting and Noelle was soon pregnant.

Staying with North and going to school until she was 18, Kennedy started to learn a lot about black magic, not that her aunt ever called it that. It was simply “convenient magic”. Her philosophy was that magic was there to be taken advantage of. Those gifted with it deserved to have anything they wanted, even if that meant taking it forcefully or tricking others into handing it over - money, jobs, belongings, lives. Kennedy didn’t believe in the same things her aunt did, but didn’t speak out against it, slightly terrified the woman would kill her off with the blink of an eye. After graduating from high school, Kennedy used the excuse of going off to college to get away from her aunt North. The woman of course used magic to get her niece a scholarship to pay for her entire art degree, which Kennedy still feels guilty for. Now that her art is known around the country, Kennedy regularly donates new pieces to the school’s museum to put on display, just a penny in the pool of money they were tricked out of on her behalf.

Kennedy is now looking for answers. The first of which - what happened to her mother? North had once said in a drunken rant that a curse was placed on Noelle while living in Siren Cove. Aside from her premonitions of a beachy town surrounded by darkness, it’s the only clue she has and Kennedy has decided to set up a home here.

PERSONALITY

Kennedy feels a lot of guilt for her mother’s family and what they’ve done, as well as for her own past premonitions. She also feels guilty for blowing up at her father and hating him for so long when her mother had tricked him into a life he never wanted. In general, she’s a polite, smart young woman who likes to spend most of her time outdoors, drawing or taking pictures to use for pieces later in her studio. Though she’s polite and friendly, it takes a little longer for Kennedy to trust. Her father and aunt weren’t the best reasons to believe in people and that issue lingers with her. She also hates being lied to or tricked in any way. That’s a sure-fire way to get her riled up, which is never a good idea since her magic is uncontrolled and triggered by strong emotions. Conversations with Kennedy may be a bit frustrating for some. She’s easily distracted unless she’s painting. Only then is she 100% focused.

OPINION OF THE RIVALRY

Kennedy has no earthly clue there’s even one going on. When she learns of it, more than likely, she’ll feel torn, knowing she’s a witch herself but detesting the idea of a curse.

LIFESTYLE

Kennedy is an artist. She paints mostly, but also draws in many mediums and creates sculptures. She has set up a small shop at the boardwalk to sell her pieces and also sells them to buyers worldwide. Past pieces are available for purchase as well as commissioned pieces. She’ll make portraits of your pets too!

She’s rented an apartment on the top floor of a complex in town which she has turned into her makeshift art studio.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Witch. Kennedy’s main power revolves around premonitions. She draws what she sees, which can be a literal representation of what’s to come (if it’s a powerful premonition) or an ambiguous picture filled with hints. If the premonition is about someone else, more often than not, the picture will be strange and full of hints. They will have to put the clues together themselves. (Think the “watchers” from Push)

Even though she’s trained for a short time in witchcraft, her premonitions are strong and reliable. Kennedy paid close attention to her aunt’s teaching in curses and other dark magic. She would never purposely perform any of those spells she learned, but by knowing the spells, she can figure out how to untether them or make them less powerful. Kennedy has not learned control of her natural magic, meaning she’ll receive premonitions through physical contact, wanted or not. She’s also been known to exert her uncontrolled magic when she’s highly emotional which mostly takes the form of exploding any light in the room. Destructive magic is all she’s been taught this far in her life, so it’s what her emotions immediately drag out of her.

She has zero knowledge in potions, protection spells, charms, etc, but she is eager to learn anything.

HEADCANONS
  • She probably has a painting of everyone in this place.
  • She loves popsicles. You can totally calm down an over-emotional Kennedy with popsicles of any flavour--but her favourite is cherry.

CURRENT STORYLINES
  • New Beginnings - Kennedy has just moved to Siren Cove. Her shop was set up before she arrived, working through a commercial realtor as she made sure her paintings and other works were transported safely. Her first post will be her first official day stepping into Siren Cove.
CURRENT RELATIONSHIPS
  • Eric Kensington - Kennedy's now estranged father. She hasn't talked to him since she left home at 16.
  • North Tyler - Kennedy's psychotic aunt who loves dark magic almost as much as she loves herself. Kennedy talks to her on the phone about once a month, more out of fear of the woman than anything else.
  • Iris Kouris - Kennedy's new neighbour whom she just met at her shop. She likes the girl, she seems sweet and innocent. Kennedy has promised to check in with her neighbour who is already worrying endlessly about her. She's also made a deal to paint her something special for her apartment.
  • Bach Jones - A weird, infuriating, scruffy man. He practically accused her of stalking the people in her paintings. She doesn't really care if he knows they're painted from premonitions, but he seems like he believes more in coincidences than magic itself. They seem to have some common ground when it comes to shitty parents.
